Hawaii Day Eight

Today we went on a six-hour catamaran trip around the south shore of Kauai to the Na Pali coast on the west. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos from this trip because I spent most of the time clinging onto the railing and focusing on various points on shore, trying desperately not to throw up (I suceeded, by the way). And Jerry spent most of that time worrying about me. I'm not sure we'd have gotten very good photos, anyway, given that the boat was pitching so much for most of the trip.

We did see a few bottle nose dolphins, a group of spinner dolphins and a number of really neat sea turtles. I do wish we had photos of these. Also, about four hours into the trip, the captain anchored the boat, and everyone got to go snorkeling. I didn't go, given how poorly I was feeling, but Jerry did and had a great time. He got a close-up view of a coral reef, numerous colorful fish and another large sea turtle (he got within 5-7 feet of the turtle). So the trip wasn't a complete loss.

Moral of the story, if you are prone to motion sickness, do not take a catamaran trip off Kauai in the winter (when the seas are much rougher), even if you have taken Dramamine (which I had). Incidentally, the Dramamine didn't do a thing to prevent my motion sickness, but it did zonk me out for the rest of the afternoon once we got home (even though what I took was supposedly the non-drowsy version).

I was feeling a bit better by the evening, so we headed out to Plantation Gardens for dinner. The food was just okay - a bit bland, really - but the service was great and the setting was really lovely, so it was a pleasant experience overall.
